The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation

robbie.jpg

The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation focuses its philanthropic efforts around the theme "Sigma Serves Children", specifically through the Robbie Page Memorial (RPM). The Robbie Page Memorial was established in 1951, following the death of a son of the Sorority's National President, Mary Hastings Holloway Page. RPM supported several polio research projects including the Salk vaccine trials.

At the North Carolina Memorial Hospital, long range programming to develop and support play therapy for hospitalized children was created. Funds raised by collegiate and alumnae chapters were used to establish playrooms and also to create a special field of study for professionals in child development.

Sigmas can take satisfaction in knowing that the leadership of their funded projects for children have helped people to realize the value of recreational therapy for children. Current efforts are centered on supporting the play therapy programs at the University of North Carolinas, Chapel Hill and Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

For outstanding support of Child Life and Play therapy programs, the National Therapeutic Recreation Society has recognized Sigma Sigma Sigma, since contributions have benefited thousands of children.

What has Alpha Beta done to benefit the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation and Robbie Page Memorial?

2008 - The Alpha Beta women put on the 1st "Tri-Sigma Night Live" this past Spring. They will once again be able to donate a substantial sum to the National Robbie Page Memorial Fund.  "Tri-Sigma Night Live 2009" is currently planned for March, 2009.

2007- The sisters of the Alpha Beta chapter organized a car wash at Vavoline this past April. They were able to donate over $900 dollars to the Robbie Page Memorial, benefiting children in both the UNC-Chapel Hill Children's Hospital and the Children's Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
The women were also awarded the "Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation Honor Roll Certificate" for outstanding support to the foundation this past year at Tri-Sigma National Convention.

In the past, Alpha Beta has put on "Sigma Slam Jam," a volleyball tournament and a "Sigma Summer Days" party to benefit RPM and the foundation.
